Wadi Rum is a protected area covering 720 square kilometers of desert wilderness in southern Jordan.

Wadi Rum is characterized by wide sandy valleys in the middle of huge mountains of sandstone and granite reaching a height of 1700 meters and more.

An ancient rock dug by the desert peoples over thousands of years
People have lived in Rum for thousands of years struggling to survive in its harsh environment.

They were hunters, shepherds, farmers and traders. Even the Nabateans once settled in Rum, leaving behind many buildings, including a temple.

All the people living in and around Wadi Rum today are Bedouins, dependent on their goats.

The Bedouin population of Wadi Rum is a resourceful and hospitable people who are largely responsible for developing Wadi Rum as a tourist destination.

Recognizing Wadi Rum's unique natural and cultural history and the vital importance of tourism in supporting the local economy, the Jordanian government declared Wadi Rum a protected area in 1998. With the support of the World Bank, they commissioned the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, to prepare a conservation plan and build a team of local residents to manage the area.

This team is now under the authority of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone and is a pioneer in ways to restore and protect the sensitive desert habitats of Rum and protect them from the impact of increasing human pressure.

Perhaps what attracts most tourists to visit Wadi Rum, this amazing desert, is the strange and unique rock formations.

One of the most famous rocks in Wadi Rum is the Burdah Rock Bridge.
It is the highest stone arches in the region, and one of the highest rocks in the world if it reaches a height of 80 meters, and it takes about three hours to climb to reach it.

In the northern part of Wadi Rum, at a distance of 7 km from the asphalt road, a mysterious castle appears in the middle of the desert... But this castle is actually only about 20 years old.

It was a set for a well-known French TV show on France 2 channel.

Also, in Wadi Rum there are camps that provide food, drink and overnight services instead of hotels whose presence would have affected the appearance of nature…
