Qatar's preparations

Qatar won the right to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ on December 2, 2010.

In 2011, the State of Qatar created the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy with the aim of implementing the infrastructure projects necessary to host an impressive historical version of the tournament, setting plans and carrying out operational operations to contribute to accelerating the wheel of development and achieving the country's development goals, leaving a lasting legacy for Qatar, the Middle East, Asia and the world at large.

The stadiums, other sports facilities and infrastructure projects that the Supreme Committee supervises in cooperation with its partners, will contribute to hosting a close and interconnected tournament, based on the concept of sustainability and accessibility in a comprehensive way.

After the tournament ends, the stadiums and the surrounding areas will transform into vibrant centers of community life, forming one of the most important pillars of the legacy that we are working to build for the benefit of future generations.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, working closely with the Local Organizing Committee for the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2022™, is responsible for overseeing the planning and operational processes of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, so that the country’s guests from all over the world can live in the atmosphere of the tournament safely, enjoying The hospitality with which Qatar and the region are known.

Following the launch of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ Volunteer Program, the Supreme Committee worked hard to select 20,000 volunteers who will help in various fields from health and safety to medical and language services, in addition to a host of other roles.

The volunteer program aims to create a seamless experience for fans coming from every corner of the world.

The Supreme Committee harnesses the positive impact of football to stimulate human, social, economic and environmental development through distinct programs such as Generation Amazing (the Social Responsibility Program), Challenge 22 (supporting innovators in the region), Worker Welfare (ensuring the safety and security of workers in our projects), and initiatives Purposeful goals such as community outreach, and the establishment of the Jusoor Institute (career development).

workers' welfare

As a key legacy focus for the Supreme Committee, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ will be a catalyst for continued progress by reforming workers' welfare and work.

The Supreme Committee works with the Government of Qatar to ensure that the country raises standards in the treatment and accommodation of employees.

The Workers' Welfare Program at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy ensures the safety of all workers on projects related to the FIFA World Cup, as well as ensuring that they work and live in healthy conditions.

Standards

The SC's Workers' Welfare Standards are a set of legally binding contractual obligations that the SC uses to guarantee workers' rights for all contractors.

These standards are applied according to a sophisticated audit system divided into four levels, including monthly self-audits by contractors, unplanned audits by the Supreme Committee, the assignment of external auditors and monitors by an independent third party, and inspections by the Ministry of Labor in the State of Qatar.

Transparency

The SC's sharing of its experiences and teachings is an essential part of fulfilling its promise that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ will be a catalyst for sustainable and meaningful progress in the welfare of workers in Qatar as a whole.

On this basis, the Supreme Committee and the independent external auditor it works with, Impact Limited, publish annual reports on their website showing progress made and challenges faced.

Consultation

The Supreme Committee remains committed to open dialogue with outside organizations that provide constructive criticism.

In this context, a number of initiatives were launched to take care of workers' rights, such as signing a memorandum of understanding with the leading International Federation of Construction and Wood Workers to conduct joint inspection tours of stadium sites.
