Anise oil is used in the manufacture of cough and cough compounds. It is also added to many medicines to improve their taste and smell. Anise fruits contain volatile oil, and the oil contains anethole, which is useful for coughing.

How to grow anise:

The soil in which it is preferred to grow anise is yellow and fertile or medium-fertile, and the anise plant reproduces using seeds in the months of October and November, and an acre needs 3 5 kg of seeds, and the land is prepared for cultivation by plowing it twice in a row, in addition to applying fertilizer Old decomposing organic matter and calcium superphosphate in the necessary quantities, and five seeds are planted in one hole.

Planting must be done on one feather, and it must be 30 cm away from the other hole.

It should be watered immediately after planting, and it must be irrigated intensely, so that the water reaches the top of the lines, and the excess plants are removed after 3-4 weeks, so that no more remains in the pot.

From two plants, where the strong plant is kept and the weak plant and weeds are disposed of either by hoeing or insecticides, and hoeing must be done four times a week.

In order to prevent field pests, when a borer or a cutworm is infected, a poisonous bait consisting of 1 kg of Marshall with soft rose must be used, then it is spread one or two days after the irrigation of the crops.

Irrigation of star anise:

When drip irrigation or sprinklers is used for star anise, the presence of moisture in the ground must be taken into account, because star anise is very sensitive to that, as it is affected by temperature changes, and therefore it will be affected quickly if the land is completely dry.

In the case of using steam irrigation, the plants are irrigated once at planting, then irrigation is repeated after about 10 days of planting, in order to help complete germination, then irrigation is done after that every three weeks during winter until March, then irrigation is done. After that every two weeks.

Fertilizing anise plant:

Calcium superphosphate is added in the new land in which anise has not been cultivated before, by 300, while in the old lands only 200 kg is added, then organic fertilizer is applied, then 200 kg of ammonium sulfate is added with 50 kg of potassium sulfate, and nitrogen and potassium fertilization must be divided into two parts The first section is 30 days after planting, and it consists of ammonium sulfate and 50 kg of potassium sulfate, and the second section is added 100 kg of ammonium sulfate after a month and a half.

Harvest stage:

When the harvest stage is reached, the anise fruits must be collected before full maturity, so that the seed does not overgrow like the rest of the aromatic grains, and the fruits are collected when their color is olive green and not yellow, usually in the months of May and June, and the plant must be removed and then moved To the drum until the seeds dry, and it is customary that an acre gives 400 kg of dry seeds.

Pests affecting anise after harvest:

There are many pests that infect anise after harvest, such as insect pests such as beetles, and they must be controlled using appropriate pesticides for their type, and the second type is animal pests such as rodents and birds, and they must be controlled by using traps and placing grilles on the ventilation outlets of the stores, and the third type is fungal pests such as fungi and mold Stored grains, and resistance is done using appropriate packages, while providing good ventilation for warehouses and disinfecting warehouses after each storage cycle.
