Djokovic "crushes" Medvedev and wins the US Open

Djokovic "destroys" Medvedev and wins the US Open championship for the fourth time

World number two, Serbian Novak Djokovic, won the 2023 US OPEN title after defeating Russian seed Daniil Medvedev, seeded (3), in three unanswered sets within 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Novak Djokovic raised the number of times he won the tournament title to 4, increasing his tally of titles in major tennis tournaments to 24, equaling the record held by Australian Margaret Court.

Djokovic also looked to become the oldest player to be crowned at Flushing Meadows in the modern era, by defeating 27-year-old Medvedev.

Novak, the US Open champion, is scheduled to receive an amount estimated at three million dollars, while Russian Medvedev will receive one and a half million dollars.

The Serbian started the match strong, as he succeeded in finishing the first set in his favor with a score of (6-3) within 48 minutes, taking advantage of a break of the Russian’s serve in the second half.

The performance of the second seed in the first group was good, with a strong presence of the first serves, as he won 81% of his first serves, and scored 3 aces.

The pace of the match increased during the second set, which lasted (one hour and 45 minutes), and both players maintained their service game until they called for a tie-breaker (TIEBREAK), which was decided by Serbian (Novak Djokovic), putting them one set away from winning the title.

Novak Djokovic took advantage of the Russian player's loss of concentration in the third set after the epic second set, and won (6-3) within 44 minutes.

The match witnessed the presence of a number of high-ranking figures, including Hollywood artists and former tennis players, led by international artist Leonardo DiCaprio, and the other American actor Matthew McConaughey was also present.

Novak Djokovic set a date in the US Open final after defeating American Ben Shelton with minimal effort in three sets without a response.

On the other hand, Russian star Daniil Medvedev eliminated world number one seed Carlos Alcaraz with a score of (1:3).

Similar to what happened two years ago, Russian Daniil Medvedev was hoping to stand in the Serbian’s way after he was denied the crown in New York and lose the achievement of winning the Grand Slam title in the same year for the first time in the history of the yellow ball since Australian Rod Laver in 1969.

Djokovic's career at US Open 2023

Novak Djokovic faced some challenges at this year's US Open that did not meet his usual standards for testing himself.

The player who holds the record for the most Grand Slam titles won has faced just one player in the top 10 on his way to the final.

However, his semi-final opponent was Ben Shilton, who had made his main draw debut at this level just 12 months earlier.

Novak Djokovic crossed the first round by defeating 84th seed Alexander Muller easily in three clean sets.

With the same result, the Serbian defeated the Spanish player Bernabé Zapata Miralles in the second round.

The toughest test for Novak was in the third round when he faced his stubborn compatriot Lasludere, ranked 38th, and he succeeded in overcoming him with great difficulty after turning a two-set deficit into a thrilling victory (2:3).

Djokovic then returned to win effortlessly in the fourth round over Croatian Burna Gogo, ranked 105th, in three clean sets within two hours and 27 minutes.

In the quarter-finals, the second seed in the world won the major over the American (Taylor Fritz), seeded (9), in three sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, in two hours and 38 minutes, before knocking out the dark horse of the US Open champion, the young man (Ben Shelton).

With the same result.

Medvedev's career at US Open 2023

Russian Daniil Medvedev began his US Open campaign with an easy victory over Italian Attila Blazs in three sets in just an hour and 17 minutes.

After that, in the second round, he faced Australian Christopher O'Connell, ranked 69th, and defeated him three sets to one in a match that lasted more than 3 hours.

In the third round, the Russian player did not face any difficulty in overcoming Argentine Sebastian Baez, ranked 32nd, as he beat him in three clean sets within two hours and 34 minutes.

In the fourth round, Medvedev defeated Australian Alex De Manoir, ranked 13th, in three sets to one, despite being late at the start of the match.

In the quarter-finals, Medvedev beat his compatriot Andrey Rublev, ranked 8, in three sets to no in a span of two hours and 48 minutes, before ousting the world number one ranked Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, from the semi-finals and qualifying for the final to face Novak Djokovic.

History of confrontations between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev

Head to Head Novak Djokovic leads Medvedev 9-5 in head-to-head matches, and for some reason, the Russian only seems to thrive in this matchup when Djokovic is in first place, and it is worth noting that all five of his victories over Djokovic have been achieved when the Serbian was at the top of the world rankings.
