Expo 2023 Doha Horticulture Exhibition

 His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Subaie, Minister of Municipality and Chairman of the National Committee for Expo 2023 Doha, affirmed his confidence that Expo Doha will achieve an amazing success, as is the tradition of the State of Qatar in organizing international events, pointing out that Qatar is a pioneering name in organizing global events and there are successes confirmed by the country’s history. 

In this field, he said: We welcome everyone from all over the world to visit us, join us, and enrich the exhibition, whether through attendance or participation.

This came during the introductory meeting for Expo Doha 2023, which was organized by the organizing committee yesterday, in the presence of a large number of media professionals, social media pioneers, and those interested, with the aim of highlighting the most important information about the exhibition and the latest findings of the committee.

His Excellency pointed out that the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition represents a unique opportunity to highlight the State of Qatar’s commitment to sustainability and combating climate change, noting that the Expo’s topics revolve around modern agriculture, environmental awareness, technology, and sustainability.

 His Excellency the Minister of Municipality expressed his hope that the exhibition will be an attractive factor.

 For citizens, residents and visitors from all over the world, explaining that this exhibition reflects a rich heritage and enhances global cooperation towards a more sustainable future, stressing that the State of Qatar’s hosting of this exhibition is of great importance, as it contributes to expanding the scope of global dialogue, as its topics revolve around sustainability and enhancing awareness.

 Environmental, in addition to scientific workshops and conferences that will be a legacy for the state and the whole world in this field. 

His Excellency added, saying:

 We hope to emerge in an honorable manner as is the promise, and we trust in the support and solidarity of everyone in their position, whether exhibitors, participants, visitors, media, governmental and private institutions, to contribute to the success of Exhibition.

For his part, Mr. Mohammed Al-Khouri, Secretary General of Expo 2023 Doha, said that with everyone’s solidarity, we aim to organize a distinguished edition, stressing the importance of partnership so that everyone, including bodies and individuals, contributes to supporting the Expo, especially since there is an agenda full of events and activities. He explained that the slogan of the exhibition is “Green Desert, Better Environment,” as the State of Qatar decided to organize the International Horticultural Exhibition, as it is the first time that an Expo is held in a desert area, and its primary goal is agriculture and combating desertification, pointing to many versions, such as the agricultural exhibition, which is organized by the Ministry of Municipality. 

For years, to identify the development of the State of Qatar and increase interest in the field of agriculture, resource conservation and technological methods, indicating that the exhibition highlights several axes over the course of 6 months, and there is also several research done in cooperation with some universities so that there is research that serves the State of Qatar and the desert countries.

Al-Khoury explained that there are 3 main areas, which are the family area, the cultural area, and the international area, pointing out that 80 countries will participate in the exhibition, and each country will determine its participation and contribute to the basic aspects to achieve the desired goals.

                  Scientific presentations

Dr. Muhammad Saif Al Kuwari - Chairman of the Conference Committee at Expo 2023 Doha, said that the mission of the Scientific and Cultural Committee that was formed at the Expo 2023 Doha Conference and Exhibition is to organize scientific and cultural events at the conference, which will focus on the conference slogan (Green Desert... 

Better Environment), and will present presentations. 

Scientific and cultural fields in the fields of horticulture, modern agriculture, technology, environmental awareness, sustainability, and providing innovation and research.

 It will also shed light on scientific progress to produce safe, sustainable, and affordable food for the world’s population, which is increasing day by day, while proposing useful solutions to reduce desertification as a result of climate change.

 In addition to presenting research and studies related to climate, water and soil, while highlighting the importance of the link between green spaces and human health, and other related scientific studies and research.

He stressed that the committee has developed a comprehensive plan to organize these scientific and cultural events based on 6 main axes.

 The first axis includes scientific and cultural activities implemented by government ministries, some governmental and semi-governmental institutions and bodies, some universities, institutes and the private sector, where it will showcase its efforts and initiatives in the fields of agriculture, horticulture and increasing vegetation cover. 

Combating desertification and others, we expect to occupy 30% of these activities.

He explained that the second axis includes scientific activities and innovations presented by the companies exhibiting and participating in the conference, in which they will present their experiences and innovations in the agricultural field, environmental protection, combating desertification, etc., and we expect it to occupy 20% of these activities. 

He added that the third axis includes innovations and inventions, as the Scientific Committee allocated spaces for innovators, inventors and developers to present their work related to agriculture and the environment.

 While in the fifth axis, the committee will allocate Friday and Saturday of each week to the family, children, and school students to present some initiatives related to agriculture and gardening.

                 “3 million visitors”

For his part, Dr. Youssef Al-Horr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Organization for Research and Development, said that the exhibition, which is hosted by Al-Bidaa Park over a period of six months, starting from the second of October 2023 until March 28, 2024, is the first event of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region, and will constitute A major attraction for visitors, as Expo 2023 Doha is expected to welcome 3 million visitors from all over the world, in addition to participating ministers and official delegations from about 80 countries, businessmen and those interested in the field of horticulture.

Tourism activities

In turn, Mr. Omar Al Jaber, member of the Expo 2023 Doha Committee from Qatar Tourism, noted that during last April, the Haya platform was launched in its new look in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, to attract many visitors, stressing that more than two million and 500 thousand had entered Doha during the last period.

He explained that the activities that will be present during the period of organizing the exhibition, and MIt was divided into two parts in different regions, including the Manadid Festival, the Shopping Festival, and the Song Festival, in addition to the Geneva International Motor Show and the Formula 1 race. 

Procedures were facilitated for visitors, whether through a Haya visa, and we also have 100 countries that can enter Qatar without a visa, indicating that activities are being held in cooperation. 

With the participating agencies, ministries, bodies and countries, the Qatar International Food Festival, in its 13th edition, will be organized in the families area at the Expo, and there will be 200 participating food service stores, as well as the participation of local and international chefs.

 He added: Our focus will be on using biodegradable materials. It is environmentally friendly, relying on the use of clean energy such as solar energy, and we also organize a kite festival, with the participation of many kite enthusiasts.
