What happens if citrus fruits are left on the mother tree without being picked
What happens if citrus fruits are left on the mother tree without being picked?
Many home gardeners believe that leaving some citrus fruits on the mother tree will make the tree bear more next year, but if you do not leave even a fruit, the flowering rate will decrease and thus the pregnancy, and this is all a misconception, unfortunately, for the following reasons:
1- Delay in harvesting will cause a decrease in the percentage of flowering in the next year or non-flowering, which is called the phenomenon of alternating pregnancy.
2- The percentage of juice in the fruits will decrease due to the return of fluids to the mother tree.
3- The percentage of citrus and sugars in the fruits decreases, which makes their taste unpalatable.
4-The color of the fruits (oranges) turns to green and (lemons) to orange, which makes them unattractive.
5- The thickness of the fruit shell increases, as do the spaces between the lobes.
Therefore, we recommend harvesting the full harvest at the time of maturity and not leaving any fruit, turning the soil, treating diseases if they exist, and increasing the organic materials by fertilizing them with organic fertilizers (fermented animal or plant origin such as compost) twice a year and scattering around the tree on the places shaded by the branches and away from the trunk.
Or the organic fertilizer is dissolved in water and given every month is better.
There are organic solutions that contain all the necessary elements in addition to amino acids that we use extensively because they have a magical effect on flowering and pregnancy and strengthening the immunity of trees.
